The Markle Sparkle

The Markle Sparkle

Royal watchers have had a lot to celebrate this winter. And so have the rest of us who can’t resist a good love story, especially when sprinkled with Hollywood stardust.

While the engagement between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry didn’t take many by surprise, the genuine feelings of joy it created has made us come over all girl gang. I got so excited that I crushed my nose to my laptop screen in a bid to see images of ‘The Ring’, and have been speculating ever since on choice of dress designer (got to be British, and I’m going out on a size zero limb and saying Victoria Beckham), and honeymoon location (I reckon a private island off Africa’s east coast).

My girl crush isn’t limited to fashion choices though, because it’s clear that Markle speaks a lot of sense. She has a communications degree, was convinced by Ellen DeGeneres to adopt one of her dogs (he’s a cute pooch called Bogart), and is a dedicated humanitarian.

Markle became the Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada in 206 and has travelled to Rwanda for the Clean Water Campaign. We also love Markle for talking at the United Nations about the HeForShe Gender Equality Campaign. We just know she will become a Princess with purpose – as she says, ‘Being a feminist and being feminine are not mutually exclusive’.

Whether Markle continues acting no one knows (friends say she was thinking of making the transition to other work before a Prince arrived on the scene), but Markle now has the ultimate stage to deliver her thoughts: ‘With fame comes opportunity, but it also includes responsibility – to advocate and share, to focus less on glass slippers and more on pushing through glass ceilings.’

We’ve seen enough press images of Markle drinking from champagne flutes.  Who knows, perhaps Markle was sipping Thomson & Scott Skinny Prosecco!  She is a woman who likes sparkling wine. And, very cute, Markle once worked as a professional calligrapher, so those who are lucky enough to get the call up to the wedding are likely to receive something rather beautifully handwritten in the post!
